Metro @ Western

On March 11, 2020, Western Community Housing and Meta Housing hosted the grand opening of Metro @ Western, a wonderful 33-unit transit orientated affordable housing community with special needs units, including housing and services for homeless veterans.  Meta and Western Community Housing partnered with several public entities including, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Los Angeles County Development Authority, the State of California, the County of Los Angeles, and City of Los Angeles to bring this apartment community to fruition.  Something all those involved can be proud of.  There was a tremendous turn-out for the Metro @ Western grand opening event by area representatives, officials, lenders, development partners and significant media in attendance. Western is pleased to be a part of this project bring much needed housing to the local community.  As for the Ribbon Cutting, there was great representation from local and state officials — from left to right: Emilio Salas, Acting Executive Director of Los Angeles County Development Authority; Graham Espley-Jones, President at Western Community Housing; Mayor Eric Garcetti of the City of Los Angeles; Council member Marqueece Harris-Dawson of the City of Los Angeles; Raymond Bunch, resident of Metro @ Western; Kasey Burke, President at Meta Housing; Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas of the County of Los Angeles; Keith Boylan, Deputy Secretary at CalVet; Ryan Mulligan, Assistant Director of Section 8 at the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles.

WCH and Meta Housing celebrated the grand opening of Glendale Arts Colony in Glendale, CA. The 70 unit affordable housing community serves low income families and is comprised of 4-one bedroom, 34-two bedroom and 22-three bedroom units. The community focuses on promoting the arts, culture and entertainment for its residents.

Tiki Apartments
(Los Angeles, CA)Tiki Apartments - Grand Opening

Tiki Apartments is a new permanent supportive housing community for homeless adults. The community is designed with a rich array of amenities and services that promote wellness, self-sufficiency, and community among residents. The community is comprised of 35 affordable rental units – all of which serve formerly homeless adults with special needs such as mental health, substance abuse, and chronic health targeting adults who are frequent users of the County’s health system and with incomes between 30%-40% of the area median income. Through a partnership with the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services (DHS), formerly homeless residents will receive wrap-around supportive services that include case management, mental health care, primary and preventive health care, substance abuse treatment, financial and life skills training.

5400 Hollywood Family Apartments

WCH and Meta Housing hosted the grand opening of 5400 Hollywood Family Apartments, a 40-unit community, serving low income families earning between 30% and 60% AMI, located in East Hollywood. The community offers one, two, and three-bedroom units, and is built atop 3,100 square feet of commercial space. The community is LEED Gold certified incorporating green design that promotes resident health and helps reduce utility demands, such as drought tolerant plant materials that conserve water. The transit-oriented community is located within walking distance to Hollywood/Western Red Line station, allowing residents easy access to transportation, employment opportunities, and community resources. Convenient access to transit can benefit residents by minimizing residents’ transportation costs and improving their mobility and sense of independence. Additional benefits include: healthier residents, more vibrant neighborhoods, stronger regional economies, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, through reduced automobile use.5400 Hollywood Grand OpeningDesigned around the concept of community, this community prioritizes large flexible, multi-functional spaces over private spaces, and features a rooftop deck, children’s play area, computer room, and clubhouse. By creating space for residents to interact, gather, and/or sit and relax, we hope to strengthen residents’ social connections, relieve stress, and enhance residents’ sense of safety and belonging.

Coral Mountain Apartments

WCH and KD Housing Partners hosted the grand opening of Coral Mountain Apartments, a 176 unit affordable family community in sunny La Quinta, California. Residents have access to a state-of-art computer lab, swimming pool, outdoor BBQs, children’s play ground, laundry facilities and a clubhouse with a kitchen, library, workout equipment and entertainment space. The property includes energy efficiencies throughout it construction, including the use of roof top solar panels on the car ports. Free classes and services are offered for residents focusing on social development, computer literacy, and personal financial management. The community is comprised of two and three story walk-up buildings which all comply with La Quinta’s green building standards as well as meet the minimum certifications standard set by LEED.

WCH and Palm Communities held a grand opening for Legacy Apartments, a 80 unit multifamily affordable community in Thousand Palms, CA. The project, a life-long dream of the late Ray Wilson, exceeds LEED silver standards for environmental sustainability, boasts a community center, offers community building and educational programs, and dedicates 15 units for supportive housing.
